KEY STRENGTHS

I have worked with companies of all sizes in many industry sectors, particularly leisure, retail and service companies. I understand the dynamics of organisations and quickly get a feel for corporate cultures. I enjoy working with people, helping them to improve business processes and encouraging them to think of ways to work more effectively.

I am good at solving problems, as evidenced by the Finance Director of a large, well known watch retailing company who promised me a bottle of champagne if I could solve a problem that had defeated everyone else. He was true to his word! On another occasion I solved a problem that enabled the client to reverse a decision to scrap a multi-million pound reservations computer system in a ferry company. The directors and auditors had previously declared the problem too difficult to overcome. The project was completed on time and within budget.

Over the last 25 years I have implemented many financial and management accounting systems. In 1980 I drafted the specifications for the first multi-currency, multi-user sales and purchase ledgers for the Omicron suite of software. Since then I have implemented various systems for companies small and large, including Direct Line Insurance. I pay particular attention to the design of coding structures and improving business processes and reporting.

I have designed and implemented systems that manage service delivery and monitor customer satisfaction in service companies, membership organisations and, currently house building and care homes. The principles are the same: meeting needs and treating customers fairly, within the context of clear objectives, efficient processes, well motivated staff and a sound financial footing.
