Hedley has been a member of the Richmond Group for over 30 years. He is a chartered accountant (FCA) and has an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management. He founded his management consultancy practice in 1983.

Hedley is also a photographer. Starting at the age of nine, photography has been a lifelong hobby. Since 2010, he has developed his photography into a new career, using his business consulting experience to help companies understand what makes an image 'commercial'.

In 2019, Hedley was awarded the Licentiate distinction of The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain (LRPS).
